MILWAUKEE - The son of a Milwaukee County judge has been charged for murder.
James Donegan faces a charge of first-degree intentional homicide and armed robbery in the death of Teresa Boone, 45, on Sept. 2
He is the son of Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Tom Donegan.
Boone was allegedly strangled to death and stabbed Sunday night in Reservoir Park in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood.
TODAY'S TMJ4 reports that 32-year-old James Donegan is the prime suspect in the gruesome murder. Police say robbery appears to be the motive for in this killing.
Judge and former Milwaukee Common Council President Tom Donegan said he will not comment publicly, only saying James has some mental issues and may have been off his medication at the time.
"The whole family supports him. We care about him, but we can't fully understand his mental state that night," said Judge Donegan to TODAY'S TMJ4.
Boone's family members told TODAY'S TMJ4 they're stunned by the connection, though they don't blame the Donegan family for the actions of one man.
Carolyn Boyd is the grandmother of Boone's three children. She helped the woman through hard times. This sudden loss shakes her to her core.
"You wouldn't expect that a person coming from such a fine background would do such a terrible thing," said Boyd.
Arrangements to memorialize Boone are in full swing.
"I feel like it wasn't worth it. It really wasn't. Now you have somebody out here who doesn't have a mother or grandson, and it wasn't right," said Boone's nephew Jeran Coleman.
James Donegan is expected to be charged in court Thursday. Teresa Boone will be laid to rest on Friday.
