Wade Page's ex-girlfriend cooperating with investigators following arrest
SOUTH MILWAUKEE- Wade Page's ex-girlfriend is cooperating with investigators following an arrest.
South Milwaukee police took Misty Cook into custody Tuesday for illegally possessing a firearm, but she has not been charged.
Cook is not being held in jail right now and the FBI isn't releasing a lot of the details about her arrest -- just saying that she had a gun, when she wasn't supposed to.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said 31-year-old Misty Cook moved to the Milwaukee area roughly nine months ago. In February, Wade Page and Cook rented a place in South Milwaukee together.
The ADL has been tracking them and found that Page had no ties to the Milwaukee area.
"(Page) was probably here because of his relationship with (Cook) but I'm not going to get into why they broke up," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Teresa Carlson at a news conference Wednesday morning.
We do know that she was recently working as a waitress at the Prime Table Family Restaurant -- just a block away from the Oak Creek Sikh temple where the killings took place.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Rob Koebel reports that the owner of the restaurant wouldn't go on camera but he did confirm that Cook once worked there for about a month and that she is no longer employed there.
The FBI doesn't think she was involved or knew about Page's plan.
"Misty has been very cooperative we do not believe she had anything to do with this -- I'm not going to say we are ruling out anything but we are still investigating and trying to be very thorough," said Carlson.
In 2005 Cook was busted for running away from police -- a felony which makes it illegal for her to have a gun. The LA Times is reporting she emailed them a statement only saying, "I hope the majority of focus will be on celebrating the lives of the heroes in this situation."
