MILWAUKEE- A somber day on Milwaukee's south side Tuesday as family, friends and law enforcement officers from around the state gathered at St. Patrick Catholic Church to honor Milwaukee County's Sheriff's Deputy Sergio Aleman.

The memorial service and interment were held Tuesday for that sheriff's deputy that was killed in a traffic accident last week.

Officers saluted the hearse as the community remembered the 18-year law enforcement veteran.

Elia Cardenas remembers Aleman from growing up together on the city's south side.   "His parents used to come to St. Patrick's like us," said Cardenas to TODAY'S TMJ4.

She like so many paused to their respects to the deputy who died in that crash while on patrol.

Governor Walker among many on hand for the private services.

TODAY'S TMJ4's Jermont Terry reports that the brotherhood shared by law enforcement officers was evident from men and women in blue.  "Bonds are created between officers because they work so closely with each other and they rely on each other," explained Jerry Rieder of the Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association.

As Aleman's family relies on faith, there's no doubt they will have the support from the brotherhood, judging by the those who remembered him Tuesday.

The service at St. Patrick Catholic Church, on 723 W. Washington Avenue, was done in both English and Spanish.  Aleman was then laid to rest in a private burial at St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Deputy Aleman leaves behind a wife and five children.

The Milwaukee Deputy Sheriff's Association has set up a trust for Aleman's Family.  Donations can be made to the "Sergio Aleman Memorial Fund" at any M&I Bank, a part of BMO Financial Group Branch.  All proceeds go directly to Deputy Aleman's family.

Meanwhile, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office has set up a separate memorial fund for Aleman as well.  Donations can be made at any Tri-City National Bank for "Deputy Sergio Aleman Memorial Fund."
