MILWAUKEE- A person familiar with the internal Oak Creek police investigation into Sunday's shooting at a Sikh temple says the officer who killed the shooter is Sam Lenda.
Because of the ongoing investigation, Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards said Monday he would not identify the officer who shot and killed Wade Michael Page with his squad rifle.
A person familiar with that investigation tells The Associated Press that the officer is patrol officer Lenda. The source was not authorized by the police department to release his name.
Andrew Schauer, a staff attorney with the Wisconsin Professional Police Association, says he represents Lenda but would not say why. He says Lenda is one of the police union's members but he could not offer further comment.
