OSHKOSH - A man has died following a crane collapse at a construction site on U.S. 41.
Spancrete, based in Waukesha, said that Joseph Bidler, 35, died. He was a driver for Spancrete who was at the construction site when the crane collapse happened at a causeway at Lake Butte De Morts at about 9:00 a.m.
The company said Bidler was from Green Bay.
“Spancrete is a family company, and Joseph is a part of our family. This tragic accident touches each and every one of us,” said Spancrete chairman John Nagy in a statement.
Another person was injured and taken to a local hospital with what were described as serious injuries. The DOT says that person was operating the crane.
Department of Transportation spokesman Kris Schuller says a crane was trying to lift a beam on the bridge when it collapsed.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department told Newsradio 620 WTMJ that one lane of northbound U.S. 41 was closed. It has since been re-opened.
The coroner's office tells Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Jay Sorgi that they will conduct an autopsy.
