MILWAUKEE- A drunk driver who killed her own daughter was sentenced to five years in prison Friday.
TODAY'S TMJ4's Nick Montes reports it was emotional day in court as family members took the stand and told the judge how this tragedy has changed their lives.
Sheriff's deputies led Brandy Allen away in handcuffs -- after a judge sentenced her for killing her 10-year-old daughter Brianna Johnson last December.
"We won't tolerate intoxicated driving," said Judge Rebecca Dallet. "The consequences are too great."
Allen was driving drunk when Brianna's younger sister distracted her.
That's when Allen's car slammed into the back of a parked semi on W. Atkinson Ave. near N. 20th St, killing Brianna and injuring her 5-year-old sister.
A judge sentenced her to five years in prison and six years extended supervision.
"There is nothing I can say or do that will ever bring my Bri back," said Brandy Allen.
Barbara Sublet knew Brianna well. "I loved her and I miss her everyday (crying)," said Sublet.
She spoke before the sentencing and told the judge that Allen deserved to be punished. "She had a bright future. I put my heart and soul into that little girl," said Sublet.
Family and friends also spoke on Allen's behalf -- they say Allen's other daughter needs her.
"I ask you on today that you not only take my daughter into consideration with mercy and I ask that you take my granddaughter into consideration," said Felicia Allen, the mother of Brandy Allen.
Allen will have to pay restitution. She told the judge that this will make her a better parent for her other daughter.
Brianna's younger sister was injured in the crash, but she has made a full recovery.
