RACINE- Republican state Senator Van Wanggaard is being challenged by Democrat John Lehman for the District 21 Senate seat.
Wanggaard plans to watch the results come in the with supporters on Racine's south side.
Incumbent Republican Van Wanggaard toured small businesses in the Racine area on election day. "I'm pretty optimistic. Heavy turnout in the areas we were hoping it was going to be, so we'll see what the numbers are tonight after 8," said Wanggaard. "I think we need to have a strong showing that we retain all four senate seats, the lieutenant governor and the governor."
At his side, state Senators Mary Lazich of New Berlin and Alberta Darling from River Hills. Darling survived a recall challenge in her own district late last year.
"It isn't like putting your record up against somebody else's to say who would best serve this district," noted Darling. "It's a very negative environment where they're not even talking about what's really at stake, which is whether or not you agree with Act 10."
