Wells Fargo firing employees over crimes committed decades ago

MILWAUKEE- It's a local story starting to get a lot of national attention -- Wells Fargo firing employees for crimes committed decades ago.
The employees admitted they committed the crimes in their younger days. And they don't know why, after years of hard work with Wells Fargo, they have to lose their jobs because of it now.
"Maybe the banks will change the way they do these things and give people consideration for their life," said Yolanda Quesada, who was fired from her job at Wells Fargo for shoplifting over 40 years ago. "I did do the crime and, you know, I had just come out of high school."
Her story is getting national attention and she now has a lawyer. Now others are coming forward saying the same thing happened to them.
Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Charlie Sykes took a call from one man who was fired in March for something he did in 1992.
His crime? According to "Rick", "(I) had a little too much to drink and decided...we were going to try to take a penguin out of the zoo."
But Wells Fargo isn't having it.
Why now? The company says because of changes in federal regulations. "Wells Fargo home mortgage has been performing a thorough background check on all mortgage team members that includes a fingerprint check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation..."
Rick says he disclosed his conviction. Yolanda didn't because she was only asked if she'd committed any felonies. Her crimes were misdemeanors. And she's being punished again four decades down the road. "I think I should get it back because it's something I did 40 years ago. I paid for it, I've changed my life."
Wells Fargo says employees who've been fired can appeal the decision. Yolanda's attorney told TODAY'S TMJ4 they're looking at their options. But Yolanda was told in her termination letter she can't work for Wells Fargo again.
