MADISON- Democratic candidates for governor Kathleen Falk and Tom Barrett disagree on the best way to restore collective bargaining rights for public workers.
Falk and Barrett outlined their differing positions at a candidate forum Wednesday in Madison.
Falk has pledged to veto the state budget unless it restores the bargaining rights taken away last year under a proposal by Republican Gov. Scott Walker.
But Barrett says that tactic won't work as it will create a stalemate if Republicans control either house of the Legislature, leaving Walker's budget in place indefinitely.
Barrett says he supports calling a special session of the Legislature, introducing a new bill, and trying to pass it that way.
State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout and Secretary of State Doug La Follette also attended the forum that attracted hundreds.
