Reports: Frontier plans to turn into ultra low-cost airline

CREATED Mar. 9, 2012

DENVER - According to a number of reports, the airline that bought Milwaukee's hometown airline has plants to turn into an ultra low-cost carrier.

KDVR-TV in Denver reports that the airline wants to compete with Allegiant and Spirit Airlines.  They are also known for charging for things including carry-ons, soft drinks and other amenities that are complimentary on many airlines.

USA Today says the move could involve a possible attempt to find a group that would be interested in buying the airline.

Frontier's parent company, Republic, purchased then-Milwaukee based Midwest Airlines, and has lost much of its market share - particularly among people flying in and out of Mitchell International Airport.
