MILWAUKEE (AP) - Guinness World Records says a new record was set at this fall's marathon in Milwaukee.
The record is for "The Most People Linked Together To Complete A Marathon" and it goes to 62 runners who completed the Milwaukee's Lakefront Marathon on Oct. 2. Guinness officials confirmed the record Tuesday.
The 62 runners were tethered together and completed the marathon in 6 hours 18 minutes.
They called themselves "Team Jennipede" and raised over $116,000 for Jenny Crain. She's a world-class runner severely injured when hit by a car in 2007 while training for the Beijing Olympics. Crain walked the last two-tenths of a mile alongside the group.
The old mark was 53 runners at the Paris Marathon in Paris on April 10, 2011.
