Larrivee says Giants 'much better team now' than in previous matchup with Packers

GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers have begun preparations Monday for their NFC divisional playoff matchup against the New York Giants.

According to Newsradio 620 WTMJ's Voice of the Packers, the team Green Bay will face has improved since Dec. 4, when the Giants gave the Packers all they could handle in a 38-35 Green Bay win.

"They're a much better team now than they were a month ago," said Wayne Larrivee on Newsradio 620 WTMJ's "Wisconsin's Morning News."

"The Giants are a team where the regular season numbers don't reflect who they are now."

He cited two main areas of improvement, one being the always-tough defensive line.

"The line we saw in New York on Dec. 4, that line didn't have Osi Umenyiora (due to injury).  They weren't doing the same things they are now, four defensive ends rushing the quarterback."

Additionally, the Dec. 4th game was when the Giants' running game, moribund for most of the regular season, finally returned to form.

"Their running game has been coming on.  They rushed for 100 yards on 20 attempts against the Packers, five yards a pop.  From there, Dec. 4 on, they've been a pretty good running team.
