Milwaukee to expand Bird City project
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A conservation group has received a grant to expand its "Bird City Wisconsin" effort.
The Milwaukee Audubon Society's project has so far recognized 29 communities' efforts to improve bird habitat, manage woodlands, limit hazards and educate citizens about birds.
The society will receive nearly $20,000 in TogetherGreen Innovation Grants. It is working with the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Bird Conservation Initiative and seven other partners.
The Milwaukee Audubon Society plans to use the money to encourage 30 more municipalities to achieve the "Bird City" status, develop their social networking programs and continue to work to secure funding from new sources.
The Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin also plans to raise $20,000 a year over three years to help Bird City Wisconsin.
