Woman faces two felony charges for killing another woman and her unborn child
MILWAUKEE- Annette Morales-Rodriguez is facing two charges of first degree intentional homicide, one for intentional homicide-while armed, and the other for intentional homicide of an unborn child.
Each charge carries a term of life in prison.
She kept head down the entire time in court Monday and didn't say a word.
According to a criminal complaint, she killed Maritza Ramirez-Cruz because she had pretended to be pregnant and panicked when it was time to deliver the baby.
Authorities report on Thursday afternoon, Police were sent to 1627 S. 7th Street where Morales-Rodriguez claimed to have given still birth to a child in the shower.
On Friday, an autopsy determined that the baby was not a result of natural birth, and that the mother's uterus was attached to the baby and had been cut out by force.
The child was about 38-42 weeks in development when it died.
Morales-Rodriguez allegedly told investigators that on October 5th she drove around looking for a pregnant woman whose baby she could steal and pretend she had given birth.
She claims she didn't find one that day.
On October 6th, she saw Ramirez-Cruz walking down the street, offered her a ride, and then took Ramirez-Cruz back to her apartment, where Morales-Rodriguez beat her with a baseball bat and cut her baby from her womb, then called 9-1-1 to report that she had given birth to a stillborn baby.
The criminal complaint added that Morales-Rodriguez did this because her boyfriend wanted a baby boy and she could not get pregnant.
Bail set at $1 million cash. Preliminary hearing: Oct. 19th, 1:30 p.m.
