Bus driver involved in fatal crash on leave from work

MILWAUKEE - A school bus driver is on leave from work after she hit and killed a toddler.
We've learned the driver is a 51-year-old woman who recently moved to Milwaukee.
She works for Specialized Care Transport.
It's a company Milwaukee Public Schools contracts for busing.
When we called the company we were told it didn't have a comment and then were hung up on. We also visited the site and were again told no comment and that the case had "been referred to insurance."
MPS gave TMJ4 a written statement saying: "It is the district's expectation, per our contracts, that our bus companies comply with all federal and state laws. Our contract requires the immediate reporting of any accident, and the company complied appropriately on Friday. It is our understanding that the company and the driver are cooperating fully in the investigation, and that the driver is on leave pending disposition of the matter."
No one would comment Monday on conditions of the driver's leave.
Calls to Milwaukee Police for information on where their investigation stands were not returned.
Family members cannot understand how the driver didn't see the girl as she left her house or darted into the street.
