When Jermichael Finley released video showing him walking down a hospital walkway after having a reported bruise in his spinal cord, it came with bright optimism that his potential road back to playing with the Green Bay Packers might not be as arduous as thought.
There are reports, however, that perhaps caution and greater steps are necessary.
Initially, ESPN's Ed Werder reported that surgery may not be required to help heal the injury Finley suffered in the Packers' 31-13 win over the Cleveland Browns.
However, a Journal Sentinel article talking to a Northwestern University professor, Dr. Wellington Hsu, who said the odds are against someone in Finley's case not needing surgery to return to the field.
When it's all said and done, the unique specifics of Finley's case will decide whether surgery is necessary, and whether he'll be able to return or end his career.
Either way, it will be a challenging decision to make, and one which we've seen in recent Packers history with one of Finley's former teammates, Donald Driver.
