On Wednesday, an update was expected on the investigation into the death of Derek Williams. He died in 2011 in the back of a Milwaukee Police squad car while under arrest for alleged robbery.
While in the car, he told police that he had breathing problems. A police camera caught video of the events that happened there. This year, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner changed the cause of death from natural causes to a homicide.
Special prosecutor John Franke asked for, and received, more time for this inquest, and he was expected to discuss that inquest Wednesday. He has been interviewing officers, witnesses and the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner about the events that led up to Williams' death.
He also asked for time to consult with the U.S. Attorney's office. The FBI is conducting its own investigation as well. A hearing could take months to complete, but Williams' family says they are willing to wait for justice.
