A battle between two teams fighting for a conference championship spawned this week's TODAY'S TMJ4 "Friday Football Frenzy" Team of the Week.
The tussle involved the Franklin Sabres and Kenosha Indian Trail Hawks, and they engaged in a close contest for at least a share of the Southeastern Conference championship.
Senior quarterback Sean McGuire's four touchdowns (three through the air, one on the ground) played a critical part in Franklin's hard-fought 28-21 win.
So did the defenseive effort, forcing four turnovers.
Still, the Sabers aren't taking anything for granted as they play Racine Park to earn the outright championship.
"We know we can't take any days off this week, but were were very excited and excited for that win," said Erik Wimmer, a middle linebacker for Franklin.
Coach Louis Brown knows that conference championships are never guaranteed, particularly in the rugged Southeast.
"Conference titles, they are not easy to come by, and when you get a chance to win one, we don't want to share it," said Brown. "We want it by ourselves, and that's motivation enough to get ready for this game."
The mentality now is "next man up," while the next man standing in the sabers' way of the conference title is Racine Park.
"That's kind of our motto, a who's next kind of attitude there, so we are game planning hard to solidify this conference championship."
It would produce another trophy to place next to the ones they've just earned, TODAY'S TMJ4's "Friday Football Frenzy" Team of the Week.
