Hacker taps into baby monitor, screams at baby

By Julianne Cassidy. CREATED Apr 27, 2014

Heather Schreck of Cincinnati, Ohio, awoke to a man's voice screaming at her 10-month-old baby, Emma. Chillingly, the voice was coming from inside of her nursery.

"He was screaming, ‘Wake up baby. Wake up baby.' Then just screaming at her trying to wake her up," Schreck shares with FOX19.

Schreck's husband Adam ran into Emma's room terrified. However, there was no man found. The baby monitor then moved on its own and targeted Adam. "Then it screamed at me," Adam tells FOX19. "Some bad things, some obscenities. So I unplugged the camera."

An unidentified man had hacked into their baby monitor from the outside and was watching them and Emma through their Foscam IP Camera.

"You do kind of feel violated in a way," Adam further shares with FOX19. Schreck adds, "I was just absolutely shocked to see somebody could get into my house so easily."

Tech experts report that, unfortunately, any wireless camera can be hacked. Consumers are advised to change passwords and make your wi-fi password different than your webcam password. Also, be sure to check the camera's manufacturer's website for program updates to prevent hacker vulnerability.
