The big-screen version of "Veronica Mars" is almost in theaters, but first it debuted at Austin's SXSW festival this weekend.
According to Entertainment Weekly lead Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) attended a SXSW Q&A with several other cast favorites, where she told fans, “This is such an extra special experience because it’s so humbling to know that the reason we’re here is because of you guys and because of all of our Kickstarter friends." Chris Lowell (Piz) agreed with Bell, adding, “I’m just shocked that I’m either on this stage or in the film. I thought I was going to have to be the $10,000 backer to have a speaking line.” Lowell was referring to the historic Kickstarter campaign to fund the film.
As previously reported, the "Veronica Mars" Kickstarter campaign was the fastest project to reach $1 million and then $2 million, and the all-time highest-funded project in film category, as well as the third highest-funded project in Kickstarter history with the most project backers of any project in Kickstarter history, according to the site. Within 10 hours of accepting donations, series creator Rob Thomas and Bell had reached their $2 million crowdfunding goal with a myriad of fan incentives, and went on to raise a total of $5.7 million.
Little marshmallows, your movie finally (after seven years) hits theaters on Friday, March 13.
