A Miami Heat basketball player has been arrested on battery charges in Indiana.

Greg Oden was taken into custody after police arrived at a home in Lawrence and found Oden's ex-girlfriend crying and lying across a bed holding her face, according to USA Today.

The incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 7.

Police are saying that the woman was initially uncooperative, but her best friend encouraged her to tell them that Oden punched her in the face.

Swelling and lacerations to the woman's face were observed by police. The incident allegedly took place in a home owned by Oden's mother.

Oden was cooperative and was taken to Marion County Jail to be processed. He reportedly told police he and the victim had dated for two years, but broke up two months ago.

Before joining  the Miami Heat. Oden played for the Portland Trailblazers in 2007, Ohio State College and Lawrence North High School.
