ALLENDALE, Mich. -- For one school in Michigan the Miley Cyrus song "Wrecking Ball" is hitting a little too close to home....or campus.
Grand Valley State University located in Allendale outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan had a wrecking ball of their own, until a few days ago.
The "pendulum" served as a school landmark, and often times, students would take photos with it, or go for a ride. But since Cyrus' video came out, the pendulum's popularity has skyrocketed. Once students started riding the ball naked the college decided it would be best to remove it. They did however blame it on investigating the "structural integrity" of the landmark explaining, "We've been reviewing this over the last couple of weeks, trying to decide whether we really need to look at structural integrity of the installation. We decided to have the ball removed and put into storage for now," said Tim Thimmesch, the associate vice president of facilities services at GVSU Philly.com reported.
Whatever the reason, the student body did not take the removal of their prop lightly and have been doing "sit-in" like protests around the landmarks old home. They've even taken to Twitter using the hashtags "#Reinstalltheball" and "#GVSUWreckingBall" and stating that Cyrus should do a performance at the school and resurrect it.
Will Cyrus show up and save the day? Will the landmark come back?? Only time will tell.
