Plane almost lands on unaware sunbather on German beach

A small aircraft just missed landing on top of a sunbather recently off the German island of Dune. The pilot, Juergen Drucker, claims that he did not see the beach-goer.

"I have to say, as the pictures show, that it wasn't one of my greatest achievements in the cockpit," Drucker, 52, shares with the UK's Daily Mail. "In my defense I can say that I didn't see him because he was lying down and I'm just very grateful it worked out well and I didn't land on him."

Drucker was en-route to land his Piper PA-28-181 Archer II in Heligoland Airport at the time of the heart-stopping moment. "Seconds after passing over the man the plane hit a fence and then ploughed across a section of the beach before coming to rest on the runway," reports the Daily Mail. "Despite the crash landing the plane was not damaged too much and after some minor repairs the pilot was able to fly home the same evening."

Rainer Schmidt, 52, who captured the shocking video, tells the Daily Mail, "I was watching the planes come into land. I had seen five planes land before this one came in. I instantly realized that this one was coming into land far too low." He adds, "It was so close to the man on the beach. The man was very lucky."

The unidentified sunbather reportedly was lying face-down when the plane flew over him, but, quickly moved to another spot on the beach after the near miss.
