Child dies after drinking soda, Tenn. couple charged with murder
East Tennessee couple Randall and Mary Vaughn are being charged with murder after punishing Randall's 5-year-old daughter with a deadly mix of grape soda and water.
Alexa Lindboom was forced by the couple to consume a lethal amount of grape soda and water exceeding two liters as punishment over a one to two hour time-frame.
According to the Associated Press and ABC News, "Alexa Linboom was brought in the emergency room on Jan. 1, 2012, by her father, Randall Vaughn, and his wife, Mary Vaughn. The girl was blue and not responding. She had severe brain damage."
The Vaughns are now charged with murder after their forced intake of liquids caused Lindboom's brain to swell and herniate. It's unclear why it took two years for charges to be filed against the couple.
