Sprint to start selling wireless plan that only connects to social media

Would you use a wireless plan that only lets you connect to social media and nothing else?

Sprint is about to start selling a $12 plan that only connects to one social media site. Users will have their choose of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest, according to The Wall Street Journal. For $10 more a month, users can get unlimited use of all four. An additional $5 gets them unlimited streaming from the music app of their choice, such as Pandora or Spotify.
The plan will be offered under the company’s Virgin Mobile brand of prepaid service, according to the Journal. It will be called Virgin Mobile Custom and will only be available at Wal-Mart.
“This is really just part of a broader effort toward customization,” Dow Draper, president of prepaid at Sprint told the Journal. “Instead of buying a bucket of data, customers can now pay less for just the app they use the most, he said.”
Other social media apps may be added as options in the future, but for now Sprint chose the four that are the most heavily used. Users will need to purchase a data plan to access anything else on their mobile devices.
