KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee wide receiver Alton "Pig" Howard says he never doubted he would return to the team even as he had to work his way back into good standing.
Howard spoke to the media Monday for the first time since returning from a leave of absence. Howard, who led the Volunteers in receptions and touchdown catches last season, wasn't with the team during spring practice.
He caught 44 passes for 388 yards and three touchdowns last season. During the offseason, Tennessee coach Butch Jones indicated Howard had some "prerequisites and requirements that must be met" in order for him to play this year. Jones has complimented Howard's consistent approach in training camp.
Howard says the experience taught him "adversity makes you strong" and that it's important to "keep pushing."
