Vanderbilt Ready To Tighten Up Quarterback Pool

CREATED Aug 5, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Vanderbilt Commodores have been doing their best to give all their quarterbacks a chance to make a good impression in the opening days of camp.

The competition now is tightening up.

Offensive coordinator Karl Dorrell plans to pare down the numbers to get more work for the quarterbacks separating themselves from the pack quickly. The Commodores had their first practice in pads Monday, and Josh Grady moved to wide receiver leaving five quarterbacks. With the opener against Temple on August 28, it's time for the quarterbacks who could start to get more work.

Dorrell said he's never been in a situation with so many vying for a job. But he says that's what the Vandy coaches face in their first year without a returning starter.
