KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee has hired Penn State's Beth Alford-Sullivan as its new director of track and field and cross-country.

In a university release announcing the hire, Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart said Tuesday he was "ecstatic" that the 48-year-old Alford-Sullivan accepted the offer.

Alford-Sullivan has been Penn State's head coach and director of track and cross-country since the summer of 2006. She arrived at Penn State in August 1999 as the women's cross-country and track coach.

She produced 158 All-Americans, four individual NCAA champions and nine Big Ten team titles while at Penn State. Penn State's women won the Big Ten indoor and outdoor championships this season.

Alford-Sullivan replaces J.J. Clark as Tennessee's coach. Hart announced last month that he wouldn't be renewing Clark's contract.
