NASHVILLE, Tenn. - With the August elections approaching, there has been some concern that voters will face a different kind of issue.
Secretary of State Tre Hargett and Coordinator of Elections Mark Goins told members of the media Wednesday that the August ballot will be one of the longest in history. It will include 6,000 candidates voters will have to consider.
“We are really trying to encourage people to vote early,” said Hargett. “The more that we can spread out the voters over an extended period of time that helps us diminish the potential for long lines on Election Day. So we're really working hard to encourage people to vote early."
Early voting began last Friday and will end on August 2. More than 143,000 Tennesseans have already cast their ballots.
