2 Killed, 1 Injured In Highway 49 Crash In Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. – Two people were killed and one other was injured in a crash northeast of Springfield on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Highway 49 near Louis Draughon Road.
A report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol said 41-year-old Antonio Crawford was driving a Chevrolet Impala westbound when he drifted into the eastbound lanes and struck a semi-truck head-on.
Both left the roadway. The passenger in the Impala, identified as 25-year-old Ventrell D. Blakemore, died at the scene. The THP said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Crawford and the driver of the semi were injured and taken to the hospital, where Crawford died.
On the scene, state troopers said that drugs and alcohol may have played a factor.
