Students Need Immunizations Before First Day Of School

CREATED Jul 31, 2013

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Nashville Public Schools start back on Thursday and time is running out for children to get their required immunizations and physicals.

Students entering kindergarten and 7th grade need certain immunizations by the first day of school, or they will be sent home. More than half of 7,000 seventh graders were sent home last year because they did not have the proper immunization forms.

Doctors should know exactly what shots the children need, will get your child up-to-date and send you home with the forms necessary for school.

"It's one of those things we check off the list. Make sure you know where you're going to school, know where your bus stop is, make sure you have your immunizations forms," said Metro Schools spokesperson Joe Bass. "We have been pushing this message all summer long--very important. If there is anyone that has waited until the last minute the time is now to contact your health department."

Any parents with last minute questions can call Metro Schools' customer service line at (615)259-4636.
