NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Preliminary figures showed 10 people died in crashes on Tennessee roadways over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the number was down from 16 fatalities in 2013.

Of those killed during the 96-hour period from midnight Friday, August 29 to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 1, officials said eight were vehicle occupants, with one motorcyclist and one pedestrian.

Four of those were not wearing seatbelts, with three of them killed in alcohol-related crashes.

THP troopers also arrested 56 people in the nine-county “No Refusal” enforcement effort this Labor Day period.
