Journal Communications Inc., E.W. Scripps Co. Announce Deal
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Journal Communications and E.W. Scripps Co. announced a deal Wednesday to merge their broadcast properties as well as spin off their newspapers into a new company.
The NewsChannel 5 Network will be merged into Scripps. The Scripps name will be retained, and according to the Journal Sentinel, the broadcast group will be controlled by the Scripps family. Scripps will own 34 stations after the deal, and will be headquartered in Cincinnati.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel will be spun off into a new company called Journal Media Group, which will own 14 newspapers. That group will remain headquartered in Milwaukee.
