MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Could a new type of golf game help bring in more money to a city-run golf course that was at one time in danger of shutting down?
That's what the City of Murfreesboro's Golf Director is hoping after officially opening a new FootGolf course alongside the VA Hospital Golf Course on Saturday.
FootGolf is a mix between soccer and golf, and it’s a growing fad among golf courses around the world.
Smyrna opened up a FootGolf Course back in April. The folks who run the course in Murfreesboro hope the new attraction will bring in younger players to their facility.
“I think we're going to get soccer players initially, and if we can convert some to try golf, and at least give that a go, that would be a bonus,” said Tracy Wilkins, the Director of Golf for the City of Murfreesboro.
The cost for nine holes of FootGolf is $5 at the VA hospital course in Murfreesboro, plus $3 to rent a soccer ball.
