Environmental Group Plans To File Lawsuit Over West Nashville Tanker Truck Accident

By Jason Lamb. CREATED Aug 17, 2014

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An environmental group says it plans to sue the trucking company involved in a tanker truck accident last week in west Nashville near the Nations neighborhood.

On Wednesday a man driving for Tri Star Trucking flipped his tanker, carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel, causing it to explode.

While containment booms are set up in the nearby Richland Creek to keep fuel from spreading, the Richland Creek Watershed Alliance says fuel continues to seep past the booms into the creek.

The Alliance says it plans to sue Tri Star for violating sections of the federal Clean Water Act.

“Everybody felt that the creek was saved and prevented from being harmed, I realized nobody knew the truth, and it was our duty to do that,” said Monette Rebecca with the Richland Creek Watershed Alliance.

The Alliance says it will file a lawsuit within two months unless the federal or state governments take similar legal action first.
