72-Year-Old Man Accused Of Leaving Obscene Note In Woman's Vehicle

CREATED Jul 28, 2014 - UPDATED: Jul 28, 2014

SMYRNA, Tenn. - A 72-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly leaving an obscene note inside a woman's unlocked car.

Smyrna Police said tips from the public led to the identification of Morris J. Nickels over the weekend. He was taken into custody and charged with harassment.

Police said he was interviewed and confessed to leaving the note inside the victim's unlocked car at the Kroger parking lot on Sam Ridley Parkway in Smyrna on July 10.

Investigators said the suspect pumped gas at the gas station, and as he was leaving the area, he noticed an attractive woman going into the grocery store.

He circled the parking lot a few times before parking next to the victim's car. Surveillance video showed him parked next to the car for 15 minutes before getting out and leaving a note inside the victim's unlocked car.

The note was written on a napkin that read in part, “I got instantly turned on when I saw you pretty lady." Police said the suspect asked her to engage in sexual activity.

The driver reportedly waited for the victim to come out of the grocery store, but the two never met. The female driver found the note, notified Kroger management, and then drove to the police station to report the incident.

Smyrna Police said information from the public led to Nickels' arrest. He was set to be in Smyrna General Sessions Court on September 23.

Police said the case remained under investigation and more charges could be filed in the future.
