Accused Shoplifters Apprehended After Pursuit
HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – Two men caught shoplifting by a Hendersonville police officer were taken into custody in Nashville following a pursuit on Monday afternoon.
Around 1:40 p.m. Monday, a Hendersonville Police officer witnessed two men shoplifting a flat screen television from Target in Hendersonville. When he attempted to stop them, they fled the scene in a blue Honda Accord.
The officer followed them into Nashville, where they stopped near the intersection of Graycroft Avenue and Old Hickory Boulevard in Madison.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Kevin Byrd of Nashville, surrendered to police. The passenger, identified as 48-year-old Steven Walker of Nashville, fled on foot, but was soon taken into custody.
Metropolitan Nashville Police assisted in the arrests. Both men were charged with theft under $500 and resisting stop, halt and frisk. Byrd was also charged with evading arrest, driving on a revoked license, and reckless endangerment.
Walker was also charged with two counts of simple possession.
Both men were said to have extensive arrest histories in Nashville.
Police said Walker was wanted in Franklin and Smyrna for Violation of Probation, Theft and Criminal Trespass. He was also wanted in Nashville for failure to appear, 8 counts Failure to be Booked, Probation Violation, Theft over $500, and Theft under $500.
Both remained in custody Monday night at the Sumner County Jail, pending a court date in General Sessions. Bond amounts were not immediately available.
