Hummingbirds Coming To Land Between Lakes

CREATED Jul 21, 2014

GOLDEN POND, Ky. (AP) - Tiny, fluttering hummingbirds are returning to Kentucky, and Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area's annual Hummingbird Festival offers a chance to learn more about the birds and see scores of them feeding.

Ruby-throated hummingbird migration peaks in the area in August. Woodlands Nature Station interpreter Brooke Gilley says as many as 200 hummingbirds may visit feeders there in one day.

The festival is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT Aug. 2 and 3 at the Nature Station. Admission is $6 for those 13 and older, $4 for ages 5 to 12 and free for children 4 and younger.
