WWII Veteran Honored 60 Years After Service
SPRINGVILLE, Tenn. – A Veteran in Henry County has received his much deserved medals more than 60 years after serving our country during World War II.
Seaman First Class L.C. Mitchell was 26-years-old when he served in the Navy during World War II.
Mitchell, now 95-years-old, had never received the awards he had earned during his years of service – until Saturday.
During a family reunion, he was surprised by Veterans Affairs with his five medals. Two of the medals included the World War II Victory Medal and a Philippines Liberation Medal.
