NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Hundreds of job seekers turned out Thursday morning for the sixth annual NewsChannel 5 Career Expo at Lipscomb University.
More than 70 employers were hand for the job fair at Lipscomb’s Allen Arena.
The event included career education and networking opportunities for job seekers and potential employers. Andrea Yancey was one of hundreds who came out to the expo.
"I majored in political science, I minored in criminal justice, it's not a whole lot you can do with that degree, unless you want to go to law school. So I've been in and out of different various jobs. I'm just trying to settle down, and get into something I'm very, very interested in," she said.Although many employment seekers apply online, many employers said they prefer to interview someone face to face.
"We would be okay with accepting resumes, but we would rather have people come in, check in with us. [It's an] easy process, of giving us your name and email address, and then that will connect you straight to Linked In where you can learn a little bit about us and we can learn about the candidates too," said Rebecca Graham with the Ingram Conten Group.
Job seekers were encouraged to dress professionally and bring several copies of resumes. Some employers will interview potential employees on the spot.
The Nashville Chamber also partners with NewsChannel 5 and Lipscomb University for the yearly event.
