MURFRRESBORO, Tenn. – A vigil was held for an 18-year-old Rutherford County man who was shot and killed outside a gas station in South Nashville.
Wednesday night, friends and former classmates came out to Blackman High School in Murfreesboro to honor Deshaun Sawyers.
Sawyers died on Monday after being shot in the back outside the Exxon Tiger Market on Harding Place, just off Interstate 24.
After what has been an emotional week, many said it was important to come together and support each other. Those in attendance lit candles in his honor, shared stories and prayed.
Friends who organized the vigil said they are still reeling from the shock of his death.
“People need to realize Deshaun was a good person, and he deserves to be remembered,” said friend Noah Clayton.
Officials with Metro Police have been working to identify any suspects in connection with the shooting.
Police released surveillance photos of the GMC Envoy. Anyone with information was asked to call Crime Stoppers at (615)74-CRIME.
