Former Grundy Co. Sheriff’s Captain Indicted On Theft, Misconduct Charges
GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. – A former Captain for the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has been indicted on charges of theft and misconduct after allegedly stealing handguns from an evidence room.
Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 33-year-old Deke Matthew Stone was indicted by a Grundy County Grand Jury on one count of Official Misconduct and one count of Theft over $1,000 on Monday.
The TBI said special agents began investigating Stone in August 2013. Stone allegedly took three handguns from an evidence room.
Stone left his job with the sheriff’s office before the TBI case began.
On Wednesday, Stone turned himself in at the Grundy County Jail, where he was released on $7,500 bond.
