Montgomery Co. Business Owner Accused Of Stealing From Employees
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A business owner in Montgomery County has been indicted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on charges of stealing from her employees.
Officials with the TBI said 66-year-old Sally Dawson, of Charlotte, was indicted on July 8 by a Montgomery County Grand Jury on charges of five counts of Theft over $10,000 and four counts of Theft over $1,000.
Dawson owns Dawson & Dawson Heating and Cooling, LLC in Clarksville.
The TBI said over the course of four years, Dawson, took 10 percent of each of nine subcontractors’ paychecks to cover insurance costs. But investigators said no insurance was purchased to cover the workers, nor was necessary paperwork to exempt them from coverage filed with the state.
In April, a Compliance Specialist with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development performed a random inspection and brought the issue to the attention of authorities.
Dawson turned herself into the Montgomery County Jail Wednesday morning, where she was later released after posting $5,000 bond.
