Suspect Arrested For Shooting Man Outside Donelson Home

CREATED Jul 16, 2014
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A convicted felon has been taken into custody in connection with shooting a man in the driveway of his home in Donelson.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department said 29-year-old Lee Russell Wilson has been arrested for shooting 41-year-old Steven Thames outside his residence on Maplecrest Drive.

Wilson was taken into custody Wednesday at a pawnshop located at the intersection of Gallatin Pike and McGavock Pike. Police said he later admitted to shooting Thames back on on July 9.

Thames told police he was leaving his home on Maplecrest Drive to go to work around 3:30 a.m. when he saw a man inside his work truck. He confronted the suspect, later identified as Wilson, who then demanded money from him.

When he refused, detectives said Wilson pulled out a handgun and shot Thames once in the lower abdomen. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries.

Police said Wilson had been living with a relative and traveled around the area on a bicycle.

In 2007, he was convicted of aggravated assault and was sentenced to five years in prison.
