Murfreesboro Woman Charged With Leaving Dog In Hot Car

CREATED Jul 15, 2014

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A Rutherford County woman charged with animal cruelty is sharing her side of the story after strangers rescued her dog from a hot car.

It happened Saturday in the WalMart parking lot on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro. Police were called about a small dog left in an SUV in 90 degree temperatures.

Witnesses forced the window down and rescued the dog while store employees paged the owner.

Shirley Bowling said she didn't think she was in the store that long and she has a medical condition that prevents her from moving fast. She admitted it was a mistake but she did not mean to harm her dog.

“I'd never hurt anything, especially not her. I mean, she's been stuck to my side ever since we've come together you know, and I go nowhere without her,” said Bowling.

Chica the dog, was recently rescued by Shirley. She found her abandoned at a gas station. The two have only been together a few days and this was the first time Shirley has ever owned a dog.
