No One Injured After Fire Breaks Out Inside Funeral Home
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – No injuries were reported after a fire broke out inside a funeral home in Rutherford County.
The incident was reported just before 5:30 p.m. Friday at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home located at 820 South Church Street in Murfreesboro.
Upon arriving, crews said they discovered heavy smoke in the basement of the structure and located the fire in the funeral home's old embalming room. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
"The fire started when a light in the old embalming room shorted," said Shift Commander Daryl Alexander. "Employees were lucky that they went downstairs before they left for the day; if this was not discovered until later, circumstances would have been much different," he continued.
Damage was contained to the basement of the building. The funeral home will remain open as crews work to repair the damage.
