PRINCETON, Ky. – A suspect was shot and killed Friday, during an alleged attempted bank robbery in Caldwell County.

Officials with the Kentucky State Police said the incident occurred at the Planters Bank, located on North Jefferson Street in the city of Princeton.

Troopers said the suspect, identified as 67-year-old James E. Hamm, entered the bank shortly before 9 a.m., armed with a handgun and wearing a stocking over his face.

Princeton Police Chief Don Weedman was inside in the bank at the time of the incident and reportedly confronted Hamm. Weedman asked the suspect to put down his weapon, but Hamm refused and allegedly fired at the chief.
