Man Injured In Fall Down Embankment Into Cumberland River
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A man was critically injured when he fell down a steep embankment into the Cumberland River on Thursday night.
It happened just after 10 p.m. past the end of the Brookmeade Greenway in West Nashville.
Rescuers said the man was with a group of friends, when he slipped and fell some thirty feet into the water.
His friends managed to hang on to him until first responders arrived. Crews used ropes and a basket to hoist him up.
The victim was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. His name was not immediately released.
Firefighters said the terrain made the rescue especially challenging. They added the actions of his friends likely saved his life.
