NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A 33-year-old man was arrested after police said he raped a woman in a Nashville park.
Metropolitan Nashville Police charged Shelly Dalton with one count of aggravated rape.
A Davidson County affidavit said the alleged sexual assault occurred at Rose Park in the Edgehill area early Wednesday morning.
Officers called to the area found the victim near the park, who told them a man had pulled a gun on her and forced her to perform multiple sexual acts in the park. He then fled the scene.
The victim was taken to Nashville General Hospital for an examination.
After the attack, officers spotted a man matching the description of the woman’s attacker at the intersection of Summit Avenue and 12th Avenue South. The victim was brought to the scene and positively identified Dalton as the man who attacked her, according to the affidavit.
The woman told police she was walking home when a man she didn’t know told her he could get her a ride. He allegedly took her to the park, pulled out a gun, and assaulted her.
During an interview, police said Dalton admitted to the crime and told police he knew what he did was wrong.
Dalton was also charged with unlawful use of drug paraphernalia after police found a crack pipe in his shorts.
He was held on a $102,000 bond at the Metropolitan Nashville Jail.
