TROUSDALE COUNTY, Tenn. – Authorities are searching for a man and a woman who led them on a chase through two counties overnight.
It started when an officer in Wilson County tried to pull over a vehicle for a traffic stop on Tuesday night, but the vehicle almost hit him head-on.
The officer then followed the vehicle for approximately 15 miles into Trousdale County, with other officers joining in the pursuit.
The suspects jumped out of the car after pulling over near Taylors Landing, just off Cemetery Lane, in Hartsville. They jumped into the nearby Cumberland River and swam across before hiding in the woods.
Authorities brought out an aviation unit to assist in the ground search. They were forced to call off the search around 3 a.m., but planned to resume at daylight.
It was not immediately clear why the man and woman were pulled over, or why they took off. Authorities in Wilson County have now taken out warrants for their arrest.
